L.A. Times Reporting Unlawful Politicizing by GOP "Drug Czar"

The Los Angeles Times reports the GOP tried to bolster vulnerable candidates in the 2006 elections by deploying John P. Walters to town halls and other events in hopes of swaying voters to the GOP cause.

Walters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, attended 20 programs...documents suggest a coordinated effort to employ a senior official who is barred by law from political activities to help boost the fortunes of Republican candidates...and that Karl Rove, Bush's chief political advisor, thanked Walters for his attention to the candidates.

Business as usual, eh?
